Uzima C.A.R.E.S.

Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. (1 John 3:18)

As part of Uzima’s overall mission to ‘Defeat depression one smoothie at a time’, we have started several community-based initiatives to reduce stigma around mental illness, empowering people to support one another, and further mental wellness. Collectively, these initiatives are known as Uzima C.A.R.E.S.

Uzima C.A.R.E.S. consists of four initiatives:

  • Student Stories Project

The Student Stories Project offers college students the opportunity to share their testimony with mental illness. The purpose of the Student Stories Project is to bring more awareness to mental health within the college student community and to give college students a platform where they can openly share their journey with mental illness with others, without judgment.

  • Circle of Friends

Circle of Friends was established to foster a community within universities where college students can explore their mental health with their peers in a safe environment, support one another while also building resiliency and improving their mental health.

  • Hope 2 Heal

The Uzima Hope 2 Heal Peer Support Program is intended to increase the provision of peer support to local college students patronizing Uzima who are struggling with mental health.

  • F.R.E.E. & Fearless

The FREE & Fearless program will offer art, music, dance, and nature therapy for minors (8-17 yrs.) as an avenue for addressing and healing from trauma.
